Windows 98 includes double buffering support, some systems may have an incompatibility between the computer's BIOS and the Dblbuff.sys file.

Open your MSDOS.SYS file in the root directory using Notepad.

Add a new line, or modify the existing line, "DoubleBuffer=value" where value is an number from the list below.

  • 0 - Disable double buffering
  • 1 - Use double buffering only if required
  • 2 - Always use double buffering
Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Note: Some computers, especially those that use a SCSI or older ESDI/IDE/ATA hard disk, may require double buffering to work properly.

Settings:
Name: DoubleBuffer
